Frequently Asked Questions

Are sessions online or in-person?

I am offering all sessions via secure video platform (Zoom). Telehealth has proven to be an effective method for mental health treatment; it has increased access and convenience for clients.

What happens during the 30-minute consultation phone call?

This phone call is not an evaluation, rather, an informal conversation to learn more about your past experience in therapy (if any), what you are seeking help for right now, and what you are looking for in treatment. This is also an opportunity to ask questions about my style as a therapist. A lot more will unfold and be determined as we work together, but this phone call is essentially an initial “vibe check”.

How long is a therapy session and how much does it cost?

Sessions are typically 50-55 minutes in length. My standard rate for an individual session is $250 with some options for a sliding scale fee arrangement. Family sessions start at $275/session.

Sometimes, therapy fees can feel expensive. I can acknowledge that I have previously felt this way in my own treatment. If my rate seems expensive to you, I would like to be transparent about how I set my fees. Please keep in mind that therapy fees do not just include the time spent in session with me. I spend time writing clinical documentation, reflecting on sessions, researching resources and receiving clinical supervision. I also maintain my clinical licensure and skills through continuing education conferences, trainings, and literature. Lastly, there are the daily business expenses such as office expenses, taxes, malpractice insurance, etc. Please feel free to bring up any questions you may have about my rate during our initial consultation call.

Will my sessions be covered by my health insurance?

Short answer: That depends.

Long answer: I am no longer accepting new clients using in-network health insurance benefits. I will update this website when that changes.

If I’m not in-network with your insurance plan, you may still get some reimbursement for your sessions. Many people have insurance plans that include out-of-network benefits. This benefit coverage may reimburse you for some or all of your session fee. I can provide you with monthly superbills to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. I recommend calling your insurance provider to ask the following questions:

  • Does my insurance plan offer out-of-network benefits that cover mental health/behavioral health? Does that include telehealth?

  • What, if any, is my out-of-network deductible? Has my deductible been met by other expenses?

  • How much will my out-of-network benefits cover for psychotherapy sessions (code 90837 for individual or 90847 for family) with an out-of-network LCSW in zip code 10607?

  • How do I submit claims for reimbursement for my psychotherapy sessions?
